Sometimes you just want to feel better in life than you do now, particularly with your health. And one of the ways to do that is to feel really awful about life for a long time.
This is because the cause of so much of our happiness and misery comes from the food we shove into our faces. Food makes us happy, and for many of us, it then makes us sad. That’s the weak point for any weight loss strategy.

Because to get rid of the sadness, we must stop eating the food that delivers up-front happiness. Which makes us mad. And then sad again. And then we often eat the food anyway to feel good, then sad, and then very, very disappointed.
Life is tough.
So how do we break the whole happy/sad/mad cycle?
I’m asking. Please tell me.
Oh, you were waiting on me? Well, I’m sorry to tell you that there is no easy solution, except to make the decision that you want to lose weight, and you’re willing to hate life for a while to do it. Let’s face it: most of our food is made of simple sugars, carbs, fat, and…

The point is, our food is addictive. And that’s why, when you list out the top weight loss strategies, they look like they were ripped from the notebook of a CIA operative about to put the screws to a terrorist to get intel out of him.
- “Cut down on food.”
- “Quit adding cream and sugar and chocolate and more cream and whipped cream to your morning ‘coffee’. While you’re at it, go sit in the cellar with one clear dim incandescent bulb. The light has left your life anyway.”
- “Increase heart rate until you see Great-great Grandpa Jones waving to you from a tunnel of light.”
- “Some foods, like cabbage, take more calories to digest than they provide. You can find these foods mostly in the dumpster behind the grocery.”
- “Have you tried intermittent fasting? It’s where you don’t eat most of the day.”
Genius.
Sorry if I’m a little grumpy. I’m on a diet.
